On Painting

My Attitude Toward Painting

The sacrifice lies calmly on the altar. The shaman, with practiced hands, opens his chest with a stone blade. He longs to see the unknown realms beyond the sun.

A Picture I Long to Paint

Though painted by hand, it appears as if shaped by nature itself.

As if echoing from a time before time, it draws us into the vast silence of a prehistoric world.

One seems to hear the joyful moans of a mother giving birth.

One can hear the horns and war drums of our prehistoric tribal ancestors.

One can sense the blending of life and nature.

Like a fairy tale from prehistoric times.

The Kind of Painting I Love

A fluid state of mind—ever-changing—offering different insights to those at different ages and emotional moments, and allowing them to enter into a silent conversation with it.

A sense of hope within desolation.

To conceal skill and mastery within the invisible.

A deep and fluid thought—never fixed.

Like an epic.

A Picture I Wish to Paint

It should be titled Illumination: the Earth's slow evolution, drifting plates, magma pulsing beneath the crust, the passage from the Ice Age into human history—all unfolding under the illumination of the invisible celestial universe, from the Great Wall and the pyramids to the jungles of Africa.

What I Hope My Work Can Be

To fuse all of humanity’s suffering, joy, and wisdom into one.

A religion of nature.

It seems to shorten the distance between individual life and the cosmos.
